Activities of daily living
- Hand Therapists carry out functional assessment and provide advice on activities of daily living.
- Activity checklists, discussion and observation of patients' abilities to perform daily living tasks are carried out. Adapted task performance and/or assisted devices can decrease the strain and stress placed on joints, thus in turn decreasing the possibility of further joint destruction. This is particularly important for people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
- From this assessment, modified ways of performing the tasks, and adapted or assisted devices can be trialled in a safe environment. Some of these devices can be purchased at the Hand Unit, whilst others need to be ordered from a supplier.
